Wahoo for wahoo! The wahoo is the perfect
gamefish. Long and sleek these silver and blue missiles of the
sea are fast and aggressive providing immense sport for those
anglers lucky enough to encounter these wonderful fish. Like
mahi, wahoos are often found around and associated with offshore
floating weed lines and debris. Wahoo arrive in the waters off
of northwest Florida's Gulf Coast around late April / early May
and may remain through November. Commonly caught while trolling,
these fish can be targeted using live baits and fishing around
deep water structures as well. Wahoo often leap or "skyrocket"
on hapless baits or trolled lures, and they are known for their
lightning quick runs which can relieve a fishing reel of several
hundred yards of line in seconds. Rarely available in fish markets,
Wahoo are excellent eating and for this reason any wahoo is considered
a good wahoo. Wahoo grow to over 100 pounds and any wahoo over
70 pounds is a real trophy. Wahoo are a possible / probable catch
anytime the Gail Force is in offshore trolling mode, however Captain
John recommends April - June for specifically targeting the larger
fish during their spring migration. Contact Captain John and plan
on your first or next wahoo real soon.
